G&G spur gears and gear wheels are primarily used in mechanical and plant engineering for purposes of fitting original components. G&G gear wheels are in high demand for maintenance measures and/or comprehensive plant modernisation projects when the original spare part is not or no longer available or at least not readily available.

If two or more gear wheels are used together, they usually act as transmission or reduction gears and adjust the speed and torque of the motor to meet the requirements of the application.
Drives designed with spur gears and racks, on the other hand, are used for axial power transmission, or more precisely for converting rotary motion into linear motion and vice versa.

Spur gears and gear wheels as well as all other mechanically geared drive elements in their different designs and variations are a cornerstone of the G&G Antriebstechnik GmbH range of products and stock items. Our spur gears and gear wheels are available in shaped and milled designs, and the spur gears are available as straight-toothed, helical-toothed and as G&G GEARflex® variants.

For its gear wheel / spur gear product range, G&G Antriebstechnik GmbH offers the machining of standard parts, heat and surface treatment as well as complete custom-made products based on your drawings – even in a quantity of ONE.

Areas of application

Drive solutions with G&G gears / spur gears are primarily used in mechanical and plant engineering, in furniture and packaging companies, as well as in production automation, conveyor technology, robotics and in the automotive industry.

Materials

The materials used in the production of spur gears include case-hardened steel, heat-treated steel, brass, hard fabric and plastic. We have the technical capacity to produce special plastic gears with a steel core as custom-made products as well as plastic gears by injection moulding.

Steel spur gears / gear wheels

Straight-toothed steel spur gears (C 45) are standard and available from stock in sizes module 1 to module 8. Depending on the module and number of teeth, they are available from stock as a gear with a hub on one side or as a spur gear disc without a hub.
Helical spur gears are only available in the GEARflex® design in the G&G standard range. These spur gears are manufactured from the material 20 MnCr5 (1.7147) and the teeth are induction-hardened to approx. 60 HRC. This makes subsequent machining (drilling, turning the groove and hub) easily possible at any time. In the toothing area, GEARflex® spur gears are ground to a toothing quality of 7e25.

Stainless steel spur gears / gear wheels

Standard G&G spur gears made of stainless steel (1.4301) are straight-toothed. They are used wherever the ambient conditions include humidity, moisture or other corrosive media. Naturally, matching stainless steel racks are also available for the entire range.

Plastic spur gears / gear wheels

Plastic gears are corrosion-resistant, low-noise and maintenance-free. They have high wear resistance and optimum emergency running characteristics. G&G Antriebstechnik GmbH offers straight-toothed spur gears made of high-quality engineering plastic (PA 6) from module 1 to module 4 from stock.

Toothing

The toothing elements of a drive must be designed and produced is such a way that they match each other in terms of the shape of the tooth flanks and the dimensions of the teeth. The size of the gearing is specified in the module. The module is calculated by measuring the distance from tooth centre to tooth centre and dividing by π (3.1415).
In mechanical and plant engineering, involute toothing (DIN 867 in the hobbing process) is the most common type of toothing. A special tooth flank geometry, i.e. a slightly crowned involute shape, ensures contact between the meshing teeth of two gears in the form of a rolling motion.

Depending on the application, the requirements for torque and running smoothness may vary, as can those for repeat accuracy, service life and wear. The specifics of the application are therefore of decisive importance for the selection of the toothing type (straight or helical), the toothing quality in combination with the choice of material, and the type of surface treatment and its execution.

For example, if correctly calculated, dimensioned and lubricated, helical gears made of 16MnCr5 material with hardened and ground teeth can guarantee a high degree of positioning accuracy and repeat accuracy in continuous operation. They are particularly suitable for transmitting high torques at high travelling speeds with frequent changes of load and direction.

GEARflex®

A speciality in the G&G Antriebstechnik GmbH product range is our GEARflex® brand helical precision gears.

Manufactured from 20 MnCr5 (1.7147), they are only induction-hardened (approx. 60 HRC) and ground (7e25) in the toothing area at the factory, which makes subsequent machining (bore/keyway/hub) possible at any time.

GEARflex® is a registered trademark of G&G Antriebstechnik GmbH.
