Timing belts for your drive solution

Timing belt made of neoprene - endless

G&G timing belts are a preferred choice for use as drive or conveyor belts and in linear technology. Depending on the application, endless timing belts or open-end timing belts are used. For applications in the automotive industry, we offer silicone-free endless timing belts on request.

Unlike V-belts, which transmit torque by friction, G&G timing belts engage positively with the corresponding profile of the timing belt pulley. This enables the transmission of comparatively high torques without slippage. Timing belt pulleys of different sizes allow the realisation of reduction ratios.

Applications of timing belts

Due to their high positioning and repeat accuracy, timing belt drives are widely used throughout mechanical and plant engineering. The main areas of application here are automation technology, assembly technology and handling technology. This type of drive has also proven itself in transport and conveyor technology.

Another area of application is mechanical engineering for the food industry. Timing belt drives offer particular advantages here due to their resistance to moisture and cleaning agents.

Brief description

When selecting a belt, one must first distinguish between two basic materials: PU and neoprene. PU timing belts have tension cords made of steel or Kevlar, whereas neoprene timing belts are reinforced with glass fibre tension cords.

The choice of imperial or metric profiles depends on the design. Metric profiles include T-profiles and M-profiles. The tooth spacing is indicated directly in the belt designation, e.g. “T5” means a tooth spacing of 5 mm. The tooth spacing is measured from tooth centre to tooth centre. As an alternative to the metric profiles, we also offer timing belts in an imperial design on request.

G&G timing belts are manufactured according to DIN ISO 5294.

Endless timing belts or open-end timing belts

In the production of endless timing belts, the tension cords are “wound” in a spiral pattern without interruption up to a belt width of approx. 800 mm. As a result, they can absorb very high tensile forces. The length, circumference and number of teeth of a winding type are unchangeable and fixed. Only the width of the timing belt required can be varied.

Open-end timing belts are available rolled up in different lengths and widths.
